Semarang, November 5, 2024 – The Fisheries Product Technology Program at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) successfully hosted a webinar in collaboration with the Indonesian Fisheries Product Processing Society (MPHPI). Titled “Fisheries By-Products: Potential and Applications,” the event took place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and was attended by participants from academic circles, industry professionals, and fisheries enthusiasts.
The webinar aimed to explore and highlight the potential of utilizing fisheries by-products, which are often overlooked. Experts in fisheries product processing, including lecturers and industry practitioners, were invited as speakers. They shared insights on how to transform fishery waste—such as fish skin, bones, and heads—into high-value products like gelatin, collagen, fish oil, and organic fertilizers.
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Fisheries Product Technology Program at UNDIP emphasized that the collaboration with MPHPI is a strategic step to foster synergy between academia and industry in advancing Indonesia’s fisheries sector.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants enthusiastically asked questions about the technical aspects of processing by-products and their business potential. Many attendees expressed interest in further exploring the applications of by-products in the industry, particularly in developing environmentally friendly products that support the sustainability of marine resources.
