Pekalongan, August 3, 2024 – Students from the second team of the Community Service Program (KKN) at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) organized a cooking demonstration for MPASI (Complementary Feeding for Breastfed Infants) featuring BUNTING (Anti-Stunting Porridge), a nutritious porridge enriched with fish balls. The event aimed to educate parents, particularly mothers, on preparing healthy and nutritious complementary foods for infants using fish as a key ingredient. Approximately 30 participants, including mothers with children under three years old and local healthcare workers, attended the event.

The program began with an opening speech by the village midwife of Pakisputih, Mrs. Nur Aini Khasanah, Am.Keb, who introduced the UNDIP students responsible for carrying out their respective monodisciplinary programs. The cooking demonstration was led by Nabila Adzkia, a student from UNDIP’s Fisheries Product Technology Study Program. Nabila demonstrated how to prepare BUNTING, a simple and healthy porridge recipe with fish balls, suitable for children over 12 months old. During the demonstration, Nabila explained the step-by-step process of making BUNTING, shared tips on selecting fish balls with a soft texture safe for infants, and highlighted cooking methods that preserve nutritional value. She also provided guidance on proper storage techniques for MPASI.

Following the cooking demo, participants were given the opportunity to ask questions. Many inquired about alternative ingredients for fish balls, managing food allergies in infants, and safe cooking practices. Nabila addressed these questions in detail, offering practical advice to parents. The event concluded with the distribution of the prepared BUNTING porridge to attending mothers and their children. The BUNTING MPASI cooking demo successfully provided parents with new knowledge and skills on preparing healthy and nutritious complementary foods using fish. Participants showed great enthusiasm and engagement throughout the event, expressing appreciation for the hands-on learning experience. It is hoped that this initiative will positively impact infant feeding practices and support better growth and development for children in the community.
